Photography Classes & Workshops
Our beginner workshop runs across two focused sessions, typically 3–4 hours each. This pacing gives you time to absorb the concepts, practice them, and return with questions. Short breaks are built in so you can review notes, hydrate, and reset for the next block of learning.
- Session cadence: Week-to-week spacing (Pasadena/Glendale) so you can practice between classes.
- Learning blocks: Exposure & focus → Composition & color → Live shooting → Review & feedback.
- Right-sized groups: Small class feel; you’ll get individual help without slowing the room.
- Make-up policy: If you miss a class, we’ll share notes and offer a short recap before the next session.
By the end, you’ll comfortably control your camera, understand light, and know how to make clean, consistent images for portraits, events, and travel.
We recommend the two-session path for beginners. It establishes solid fundamentals without overwhelming you, and sets you up for our intermediate and wedding-focused workshops.
- Session 1 (Foundations): Aperture, shutter, ISO, metering, white balance, focus modes, and simple composition.
- Session 2 (Application): Guided shoot, problem-solving in real light, and group critique to speed up your improvement.
- Optional add-on: A 60–90 minute 1:1 tune-up for portfolio review or specific questions.
- Progression: After this workshop, most students move to Lightroom Editing or the Wedding Workshop.
If you already know the basics, tell us at signup—we’ll place you in an intermediate group so you get maximum value.
Practice is where everything “clicks.” We shoot outdoors near the Pasadena studio (or Glendale locations) so you learn to handle changing light and real-world timing—exactly like you’ll encounter at events and portraits.
- Exercises: Fast focus drills, backlight control, shade vs. sun, and simple off-camera flash demos.
- Story approach: Build a mini-sequence: wide → medium → close-up to tell a complete story.
- Critique loop: We review selects in class, highlight what works, and give 2–3 targeted improvements.
- Rain plan: We pivot to covered spots or studio-style lighting practice if weather turns.
You’ll leave with a small set of keepers and a clear practice plan to keep progressing after the workshop.
“Learn by doing” is our philosophy. We keep classes small, practice with real assignments, and review images together so you leave confident.
